From the Artist:

"June 12, 2016 at 2:02 am, the life that I had known would forever be changed. On this night The Pulse nightclub attack occurred in Orlando, Florida. As an Orlando Police Officer I was working an extra duty/off duty detail at the Club. I had been working at this club for approximately two years and came to know many of the regular customers. Gun fire began to erupt from within the club and I immediately recognized that we were facing an active shooter event. Shortly after the gunfire began and I had called for immediate assistance the gunman briefly exited from the side doors of the club where I was engaging the shooter returning fire towards him. I again engaged the shooter later in the response just prior to entering the club. As we entered the night club we were faced with dozens of dead bodies located throughout the club. We walked through a pool of blood as we rushed to rescue the victims. Though I have seen and experienced a lot of trauma during my careers’ this event eventually broke me. I became suicidal, making two attempts on my life and turned to alcohol to not just ease the pain but allow me to black out and not feel the pain temporarily. Not only was I broke and hurt but so was my family.

After numerous doctors, programs and therapies we were desperate for a long term solution to my issues of diagnosed PTSD, Major Depression Disorder and alcohol/substance abuse dependency. My wife found Warriors Heart and from the moment of the first call to stepping beyond the Warriors Heart gate we found a resolution. Though it took me two trips to Warriors Heart I can proudly say that I have not drank for over two years since my time at Warriors Heart. I found a second home and am eternally grateful to everyone associated with the program. The art program allowed me to release a lot of my emotional feelings onto canvas and share with others not only how I feel but that of shared feelings among other Warrior Heart clients. This peace represents the team effort it takes from the staff of Warriors Heart to the clients, the families and the generous donors of the program. The helping hand signifies the beginning steps taken by each client to retake control of their lives. The person extending the hand is all those involved in the process. The Warriors Heart tree is the root and foundation which we as clients and Warriors will begin to rebuild our lives. The eagle represents the strength it takes for all involved."
